Staff Award Nominations
Please consider nominating a member of the DMSE administrative, support, or teaching staff for an excellence award.
DMSE Recognition
The department recognizes employees for their contributions with two awards: DMSE Applause and the Spot Award.
DMSE Applause
DMSE Applause is the perfect way to acknowledge a colleague for going above and beyond! Recipients will automatically receive a notification of your submission, along with any note you’d like to send to them. In addition, each recipient of DMSE Applause will be entered into a quarterly raffle for a prize from the department.

Spot Award
For larger-scale projects and performance spanning over a long period of time, consider nominating a colleague for a Spot Award. Spot Award recipients may be eligible to receive a one-time supplemental payment for their hard work. The DMSE HR team will review and process all Spot Award requests.

Infinite Mile and Ellen J. Mandigo Awards
These annual awards recognize individuals who have gone above and beyond in their work for the Institute.
Infinite Mile Award
The Infinite Mile Awards support the MIT’s objectives for excellence. Launched in 2001, the awards recognize and reward members of the MIT School of Engineering’s administrative, support, sponsored research, and, when appropriate, academic staff. The categories and criteria are the following:
- Excellence: Successful nominees are individuals or teams (generally no more than five people) whose work is of the highest quality. The nominees stand out because of the high level of commitment, enormous energy, and enthusiasm they bring to their work.
- Diversity and community: Successful nominees promote diversity and harmony in the workplace by taking positive steps toward promoting cross-cultural sensitivity and a sense of community. They create or help create a welcoming and supportive environment in which all are encouraged to excel.
- Institutional cooperation: Successful nominees welcome and make the most of opportunities to collaborate across units. They contribute to cross-functional efforts, embrace the needs and values of the Institute, and are generous with their time and knowledge.
Ellen J. Mandigo Award
This award honors a member of the School of Engineering who has demonstrated, over an extended period-of-time, intelligence, skill, hard work, and dedication to MIT.
