Research
Professor Julia Ortony’s research group focuses on molecular materials, with an emphasis on molecular design, synthesis, and advanced characterization of materials that self-assemble in water. The Ortony group uses self-assembly to create nanostructures with tuned dynamic and mechanical behavior for applications related to environmental sustainability and human health.
Biography
Professor Ortony was the Samuel A. Goldblith Assistant Professor in Materials Science and Engineering at MIT until January 2023; she is now an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego.
She received a BS in chemistry from the University of Minnesota in 2005, and a PhD in materials chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2011.
