Professor Lechtman wins Pomerance Award

Professor Heather Lechtman has been awarded the Pomerance Award for Scientific Contributions to Archaeology by the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA).

In her over 50 years at MIT, Dr. Lechtman has become a defining figure in studies of ancient technology and materials and especially Andean metallurgy (but also weaving and textiles). Her work has focused on investigating and understanding material culture in terms of the underlying technology and properties (e.g. assessing mechanical properties through experimental techniques) but also the social context.
