For Current Students
To be awarded a graduate degree, students must demonstrate depth of knowledge and mastery of a specific area or topic. This knowledge and experience is gained through lectures in the core curriculum, classwork in elective subjects, lab work, and focused experimentation. Our doctoral students must pass examinations on the core subject areas in our field and must write and defend a thesis. Information about pursuing a graduate degree in Course 3 can be found in these pages, by contacting the Academic Office, or by consulting the MIT Bulletin.
