Research
Professor Bernhardt J. Weunsch researches the atomic structure of crystals. Using X-ray diffraction on unique crystals and crystalline powders grown within his lab, Professor Weunsch works on problems such as ordering and superstructure formation, partitioning of ions among sites in solid solutions, structural changes during phase transformations, and the thermal motion and diffusion paths of mobile ions in fast-ion conductors. Point defects in oxides and diffusion along grain boundaries are other problems his research addresses.
Biography
Professor Weunsch earned his SB and SM in physics and his PhD in crystallography, all from MIT.
