Kimerling group develops germanium laser

New results from the Electronic Materials Research Group bring us closer to computers that use light instead of electricity to move data. In a paper to be published in Optics Letters, Prof. Lionel Kimerling and members of his group describe how they coaxed excited germanium electrons into a higher-energy, photon-emitting state.
