MADMEC 2008:
"Materials Solutions for Alternative Energy"
PROPOSALS DUE: April 25, 5 pm, Room 6-107

MADMEC 2008 SCHEDULE
(dates subject to slight changes)

March 19: MADMEC 2008 Kickoff and Information Session
April 25: Project proposals due
May 28: Checkpoint 1: Best CAD Drawing/3D printed model
July 1: Checkpoint 2: Best laser-cut part/assembly
July 30: Checkpoint 3: Best CNC part/assembly
August 13: Semi-Finals
Mid-September: Finals (Date TBA)

The "Checkpoints" are a new addition to MADMEC in 2008. Each team will be required to create a CAD drawing and 3D print out of either their prototype or a specific part, a laser-cut part or prototype assembly and a CNC-machined part or assembly. These facilities are all available within the DMSE, and specific MADMEC training sessions will be offered to contest participants. At least two of the three checkpoint parts must be directly related to or used in the team's prototype -- the other need not be related to the team's chosen prototype or challenge. Each checkpoint's winning team will receive $500 in prize money.

The semi-final event will require a presentation of the teams' technologies and prototype progress. Exact presentation requirements will be forthcoming.

The MADMEC finals will require posters describing the teams' devices, a short presentation and a display of their finished, working prototypes.
