Abstract:
Imagine a wind power generator with no moving parts – quiet,
aesthetically unobtrusive, and maintenance-free. We are developing a
generator that produces charged molecules in the air and harnesses
kinetic energy directly from the wind through the motion of the
molecules. This project is a true materials science & engineering
challenge. In order to efficiently generate ions in the wind, sustain
their charge through through a flow chamber, and efficiently
neutralize them at the chamber outlet, our choice of materials and
design must be well conceived. We hope that this work will enable new
applications for the use of wind power.
