Dr. Hudson is a technical instructor and manages the Laboratory for Physical Metallurgy, a shared space within DMSE for teaching and research activities.

He recieved his S.B. in Materials Science and Engineering at MIT in 2012 and his Ph.D. in the same field from WPI in 2016. His doctoral reseach involved the use of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) as a tool for impurity detection in molten aluminum. This earned him the 2014 Ruddle Award from the North American Die Casting Association (NADCA) and the 2015 Harmon Award from the Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF). He was also appointed as lab manager for the Advanced Casting Research Center at WPI.

His professional interests include metals processing, physical metallurgy, materials characterization, and engineering education. He enjoys artisinal casting, blacksmithing, and old things in general!

Six current DMSE faculty members have been elected to the National Academy for Engineering.
